Magic Trackpad @ Apple’s Store

I started to watch the movies on iTunes U, enrolled as a Apple developer and bought some books, even though I watched over 8 hours of video I haven’t touched xCode yet But brewing up some idea’s already that would make cool apps! So look out in the App store if you see my name or my company name scrolling by!

I am not putting the apps in a Top # order but in order how many times I use it, or the importance for the app to me.

Coda

Coda is in my eyes the holy grail of web development apps in the genre Text editors, but it’s so much more then just a text editor. Many people prefer Text Mate, I’ve tried that too, but once using coda u never go back. Hehe. Coda is lightweight and fast to use, It has build in Sites to save your sites obviously, very easy to use. And it has a build-in preview option, but I don’t use that, I prefer switching to Firefox. What I do use is the build in Books option, this lets you view for instance the PHP documentation, and you can easily search the books. Pipette

Pipette is a quick and handy tool to easily grab the color of any pixel on your screen, and copy the HEX code to your clipboard. Its fast and lightweight which is pretty important to me. Having to wait for an app is very frustrating while developing.

Transmit

Transmit, from the same developers as Coda. Again is the holy grail in the genre FTP apps. Very easy to use, and the app design is very slick. It also has an Sync option which synchronizes your local folder with the external folder, a time saver. Also the performance of the app is super fast. Querious

For many years I used phpMyAdmin for mysql database management, but since I found Querious I never touched it again. Having mysql management directly from my desktop saves time, works faster and again in a slick design. You can easaly connect to the mysql database server directly, or use a SSH or SSL tunnel. Firebug

The number one extension for FireFox for web developers, I simply can’t or won’t do my work anymore without this extension. Inspect elements, debug AJAX responses and output, you name it and Firebug has it. If you are a big fan using Firefox while developing u should definitely have Firebug enabled. It’s a must have for developers.

Versions

When you are using Subversion while developing your project, Versions is a handy application to check timeline’s, checkout your work or browse the repository, view changes etc. If you are using Coda it is not required since Coda has Subversion build in. But I like to use this app to view changes or check the timeline. Also it’s easy for checking out changes to multiple sources.

Billings

Time management, client management, invoices, project timeline etc. Billings has it all. I use this application to log my work by simply turning on the timer. You can add working slips to your project and invoice these to your customer. They also have a nice iPhone app which connects to your Billings. QuickSilver

I simply can’t and wont work on a Mac without quicksilver, it’s a time saver for sure. Easily start your applications by simply typing the name and hitting return. This should be standard on all mac’s if you ask me. I think all mac users also know this app, at least all mac users I know have it installed and can’t go without it. Check it out.

I found a nice little app, well, a friend gave it to me. It’s called MagicPrefs. It allows you to tune your mouse a little bit more advanced then Apple’s prefs. You can also create your own gestures for the mouse. Quite a handy app. All magic mouse owners should check it out here. magicprefs.com

Your footer that bitches about how your site doesn’t work in IE6 and you don’t care, tells me that you don’t know enough about your profession to make it work in IE6. Don’t whine that your code doesn’t work, figure out a way to make it work. There is more than one way to mark up a page.

No one wants to hire a whiner, they don’t even want to know there was a problem. It’s your job to find it and fix it as if it didn’t even exist. If you can do that, you will surely go far.

Usually in PPC, the goal is to get the best return from a limited budget. But when you get a client whose goal is to dominate the market and get as much profit as possible by spending as much as possible, you run into the problem of limited PPC impressions.

If you haven’t struggled to get more impressions before, here are a few pointers:

• Budgeting more than you can spend does not guarantee your ad shows 100% of the time
• Only one ad per account can show for any one keyword
• AdWords’ Double Serving policy is fairly clear but they reserve final judgment on a case by case basis

Just Maximizing Spend Does Not Get You All The Impressions in the World

This can be baffling to clients. “You mean we’re spending as much as they’ll let us, and they aren’t showing our ads every time anyone in the world searches for our keywords?” Yes, that’s what I mean. We’ve seen accounts only receive 20% of available impressions for their favored keywords despite an unlimited budget.

“Why can’t we get more impressions?” Well, no matter how much money you have, you’re not the only advertiser in the world, and Google is trying to show everybody’s ads. They’re also trying to maximize their earnings. I suspect this is about more than just CTR and CPC, possibly yet another mysterious Google algorithm.

5 Ways to Maximize PPC Impressions

There are a few more ways to maximize impression share (the % of all available impressions for the keywords you’ve chosen) besides increasing your budget:

1. Ad Quality: This is about quality score, which is really about CTR, which is really about choosing the right keywords, creating granular ad groups, and write and testing good ads. Negative keywords help. Keywords in ads help.
2. Accelerated Ad Delivery: This option is found in Campaign Settings. AdWords doesn’t guarantee you’ll get all your impressions if you use the standard delivery rate. Accelerated increases the likelihood you’ll spend your daily budget every day. For more, see Google AdWords Help : Which ad delivery option is best for my campaign?
3. Increase your bid: This is one contributing factor in ad position. AdWords gets squirrelly on the phone when you try to nail down whether or not higher ranking ads get more impressions.
4. Adjust keyword match type: Broad keywords generate more impressions than phrase, and phrase more than exact. Broad keywords are not such a big relevancy risk if you use negative keywords. And the advertiser who’s looking for market dominance might not mind some of the realities of expanded broad match.
5. Adjust regional or placement targeting parameters: Although query parsing may make your ads available beyond your geotargeting, geotargeting definitely limits impressions. Relax these, or at least create complimentary campaigns for other geotargets then optimize your spend across them.
